DIE ZEIT

THE ARTICLE WAS ABOUT THE MANY SCRAP CARS THAT ARE
COLLECTED IN HAMBURG´S HARBOUR AND THEN SHIPPED
TO VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN AFRICA. THERE, WORKERS WOULD
MAKE ONE “NEW” CAR OUT OF TWO OR EXPLOIT ALL THE
SPARE PARTS AND RESELL EVERYTHING. EVEN A SIDE MIRROR
IS WORTH MORE THAN A MONTH´S SALARY IN AFRICA.
IN HAMBURG´S HARBOUR THE CARS ARE PACKED FULL WITH
OTHER GOODS TOO, E.G. REFRIDGERATORS, ELECTRONICS;
JUST TO SAVE STORAGE SPACE. ALMOST ALL OF THE SCRAP
CARS ARE NOT EVEN ABLE TO RUN ANYMORE SO THEY HAVE
TO BE PUSHED ONBOARD BY ANOTHER WORKING CAR.
